About the Race

When is it?

3rd October 2021

With the most recent announcement from the government regarding the gradual reopening of the Pool and sporting events we are pleased to announce that we have moved our planned Aquathon from 2020 to September 2021. We hope that by this time some sense of normality will be restored and everyone will feel more comfortable in a large gathering of people. All those who entered the event in April last year should have received an email with their options for taking part in the race, and if you have any questions regarding your entry please do not hesitate to contact us.

The Swim

The swim will be a 400m swim and will take place in the pool. The pool will be set up with 4 lanes, with entrants swimming 4 lengths in each lane before ducking under the rope and then moving into the next lane. Swimmers will begin in deep end and will also finish in the deep end, where they will then get changed (quickly!) and head out of the deep end fire exit for the run section of the race.

The swim will begin at 9am exactly with the first swimmer, and other participants will then be set off at 1 minute intervals. Swimmers will be arranged approximately based on either their 400m swim time from the previous Aquathon, or for new entrants the 400m time that they have provided.

There is no stroke requirement for the swim and the race is open to people of all swimming abilities, however, Freestyle is suggested.

The Run

The run will be a 5km run and the route will be around the local area of the pool, beginning at the pool and finishing on the school playing fields behind the pool. Your transition time from swim to run will be included in your overall finishing time so once you've finished your swim you must get changed as fast as you can into your running gear, we recommend wearing  a Tri-suit and elastic laces for your running shoes as every second counts!

The running route is shown below:

Entry is open to anyone aged 16 or over, and if you're either a swimmer or a runner and don't think you could do both parts of the race, relay teams are welcome!

There will be a prize for the 1st placed male, 1st placed female and 1st placed relay team.
